--There will be no Zeel DEAL tomorrow (Tuesday) due to the 8th grade collaboration meeting.

---------------------------STUDENTS--------------------------

--Reminder: For safety reasons and because it is school policy, you may NOT wear your hood or a hat in school.

--Please be sure you are keeping your mask covering both your mouth and your nose while you are in school.  The only exception is when you are eating lunch.

--Reminder - your phones are ONLY allowed out before and after school and during passing time.  If you can't resist checking it, keep it in your backpack.  For your first offense, your phone will be kept in the office and picked up at the end of the day as well as earn you 2 lunch detentions.  Your second offense means your parents will have to come pick up your phone from the office and you will earn 4 lunch detentions.  Make good choices!

--Students, if you have your school ID card, please bring it to the lunch line if possible.  It is more sanitary if everyone doesn't need to touch the keypad and scanning it really helps to speed up the lunch line. Thanks!

--Students:  Please do NOT throw snow or ice before or after school while waiting for your bus or ride home, or while on mask breaks or outside at lunch.  Thank you.

--Reminder - when you arrive in the morning, please go straight to your first class of the day.  Too many students are currently roaming the hallway before school.  Students caught roaming the hallway will earn lunch detentions.  Thanks for your help following the Covid guidelines.

--Students when you leave school early for any reason, you MUST go through the office and let them know you are leaving.  Thank you.

--PLEASE make sure you have your mask with you when leaving your house in the morning!  Helpful tip:  Have a spare in your backpack or car to grab if you forgot to take one when you left the house.

--Please make sure that you have downloaded the iBoss app onto your iPad; this app needs to stay on your iPad to help with internet issues during remote learning. Also, please check your iPads to see if you need to download any software updates.  You should shut your iPad all the way off at least once a day.  Also, please do NOT remove your iPad case; you risk breaking the screen and it voids the insurance warranty.  If you need any help, please see Mrs. Nelson in the CBC.

--Students!  If you are having download or app issues, please check your iPad settings to see if you need to download and install a software update.  This could help fix some of the common issues that some of you are dealing with. And don't forget to charge your iPad every single night!

--Your email app on your iPad is not working correctly; Technology is aware of this, and the fix needs to come from Apple so for now, you will need to send and receive your email from Safari.  Make sure you set up a bookmark for this to make it quick and easy.

----Students, if you did not get a public library card through your ELA class this fall and would still like one, please see Mrs. Vredeveld in the media center.  This card allows you to access public library books through the Libby app on your ipad and it's free!

--Students: Spring sports will begin on March 29.  If you're interested in playing Boys Tennis (grades 6/7/8), Girls Soccer (grades 7/8), or Girls & Boys Track (grades 7/8) - Please make sure your Final Forms are up to date and you have your physical turned in.  See the links and information at the bottom of the parent section of the announcements.  See Mrs. Nelson in the CBC with any questions.

--If your child will not be in school, for any reason, you MUST call the attendance line at 748-3205. Thank you!

--Parents if you are picking your child up from school for any reason you must call the office before we will let them go.  You may also call their cell phone in addition to the office, but the office must hear from you.  616-748-3250. Thank you!

--PLEASE make sure you have your mask with you when leaving your house in the morning!  Helpful tip:  Have a spare in your child's backpack or in your car to grab if you forgot to take one when you left the house.

--GRASP is a summer math and reading program used throughout the U.S. to help students retain math and/or reading skills learned during the past school year. Students finishing Kindergarten up to 8th grade will receive a packet of materials with a booklet containing 9 units of review exercises. Students complete one unit a week or work at their own pace as long as they are in by the deadline.  You can register by mail, fax, or online at grasp.grps.org.  You can find the enrollment forms here in English and Spanish.  Enrollment and payment are the responsibility of the parent.

--March Be.Nice Newsletter ~ This newsletter is intended to help increase awareness and decrease the stigma associated with our mental health.

--Any message needing to get to a student must be received by 12:30 pm. We call students down at the beginning of their last hour during announcements so we are not disturbing classroom instruction time.

--Reminder - If you are planning on sending something to your student at school for birthdays or holiday celebrations, please be mindful that they are unable to take balloons, flower bouquets, and any other items they are unable to fit in their backpack on the bus.

--Students & Parents:  GOOD  NEWS!  The free lunch and breakfast grant that was to expire in December, has now been extended.  Free lunch and breakfast for all students in ZPS will continue for the ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR.  No matter what your family's income is, a full lunch and a full breakfast is free to all students every day! All meals (breakfast and lunch) are served at NO COST to all ZPS students. You can find your schools menu at https://www.zps.org/parents/food-service/. Only complete meals are free. A complete breakfast or lunch has to have 3 items, one item must be a fruit or vegetable. An entree is usually considered two items (protein/grain). A complete meal is an entree, fruit and/ or vegetable, milk. This is a great way to have your child eat a healthy breakfast and lunch at NO cost to you!

--Parents and Students: We can no longer allow food to be delivered from area restaurants to our students for lunch.  We aren't allowed to sign your credit card receipts, and often the order only comes with a student's first name on it making it very difficult for us to know who it is for.  Students often don't know a lunch is being delivered for them, so they don't come to pick it up and the food goes uneaten. Thanks for understanding!

SPORT SIGN-UPS:  All registration and sports signups will be done online in the Final Forms website at www.zeeland-mi.finalforms.com. Parents and students need to register once a year for all of the sports you will be playing or think you might want to play. Please check your mail/spam mail for confirmation once you have originally signed into Final Forms to confirm your account.  You can also link Final Forms through the Cityside website under the Athletics tab, or you may pick up a hard copy of the Final Forms instructions by the CBC room or in the office at Cityside. As in the past, we need a current 2020/2021 physical dated from the doctor after April 15 of 2020 to be eligible for all sports or a completed physical from last year (2019/2020) PLUS a MHSAA Health Questionaire Form (both pages please) that has been completed by both the student and parent.  Be sure to fill out both pages of this form.  Please bring all documents to Mrs. Nelson in the CBC.

March 4, 2021

--This week, the 7th grade girls basketball team had 2 games.  On Monday, they traveled to Holland Christan to take on the Maroons (What is a Maroon anyway?  A shade of red?)   The girls got off to a slow start offensively but continued to keep shooting and really turned up the defense the second half. More than 1/2 the team scored at least 1 basket and the team rebounded well. A 16-2 run gave the lady chix a 3 point victory!    On Wednesday the team traveled to play the Panthers of West Ottawa.  Although the team lost a close game by 4, they showed amazing effort and continued to improve on both offense and defense.  Coach is most proud of how hard they play no matter the score - keep it up!

--The 8th grade basketball team played West Ottawa last night and they demonstrated a spartanism type attitude as they dove for loose basketballs, played fearlessly during every moment, and showed a confidence which was an underscore to their toughness.  The Chix unfortunately came up short in this one but their character and perseverance were something to see!   Aubree Veltema & Reese Gruppen led the Chix in steals, Emily Wierenga & Addison Hathaway led the team in rebounds, while Mirra Fenlon poured in 21 pts.  Emily Wierenga contributed 6 points while Isa Valenzuela knocked down 5.

--The theme for Fun Friday this week is Crayon Day.  Dress up tomorrow in all the same color from top to toes.  Make Crayola proud!

---------------------------PARENTS---------------------------
