Zeeland Public Schools Celebrates Lilly Nyland’s Selection as National FFA Secretary

Zeeland Public Schools is proudly celebrating Lilly Nyland on being elected National FFA Secretary, one of the highest student leadership honors in agricultural education. Nyland, a Michigan representative and former member of the Careerline Tech Center FFA Chapter, was elected during the final session of the 98th National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis as part of the 2025-26 National FFA Officer Team.

Each year, just six student members are elected by National FFA delegates to serve as national officers, including a president, secretary, and four regional vice presidents. During their year of service, national officers represent FFA members across the country, help lead leadership and personal growth conferences, interact with business and industry leaders, and help guide the organization's future.

FFA describes itself as the premier youth organization preparing members for leadership and careers in the science, business, and technology of agriculture. Through its programs and chapter experiences, the organization emphasizes growing leaders, building communities, and strengthening agriculture.

For those who know Lilly, this national recognition comes as no surprise.

“Lilly was an impressive student because of her diligent effort and the care she brought to her work, but what truly made her stand out was her humble spirit paired with an incredible ability to lead others,” said Lilly’s former teacher, Sarah Rice. “Many have described Lilly as a light, and I wholeheartedly agree. Her passion for the world of agriculture, along with her genuine character and the way she truly knows and values the people around her, is what has set her apart.”

That impact, those closest to her say, has never been about recognition alone.

“I used to tease Lilly and tell her that I was blessed to be the teacher of a future leader in the world of agriculture because I could already see her drive to work hard, her passion for the field, and her compassion for others,” Rice added. “I am so proud of what she has accomplished and what she will have the opportunity to do, not just because it is on a national stage, but because of how many people will be blessed by working with and learning from Lilly in the coming year.”

Lilly’s election is a tremendous honor not only for her but also for Michigan and the broader agricultural education community she now helps represent at the national level. Zeeland Public Schools celebrates this remarkable accomplishment and the example Lilly continues to set through her leadership, character, and service to others.
