Grimacing, Zeeland high school student Cam Pratt breaks the bad news to a loved one.

"I know we've been through a lot together . . . but I think it's time we move on."

The object of Pratt's concern is not a girlfriend, burt his outdated computer equipment.  Pratt's performance is part of a one-minute video created with fellow students to promote a major electronic recycling effort Wednesday, April 20, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the south end of Zeeland West High School, 3390 100th Avenue. Items accepted will include computers, printers, fax machines, scanners, cell phones and televisions (maximum screen size 32 inches). The project is a joint effort by Zeeland high school students, MacMedia of Holland, and two area businesses, Best Buy of Holland and eWasteNot WantNot of Zeeland, an electronics recycler.

Ben Ashby, Spanish teacher for first through fifth grades, recently videotaped Roosevelt Elementary third graders to demonstrate several ways students learn.  The three-minute video is presented in six segments.

Engaging learners . . .  through song -  children sing songs about greetings and months of the year;  through music and movement- the kids sing about los cinco sentidos, the five senses;  through technology- a projector is used to help visual learners; with visuals- Mr. Ashby uses props to help students learn vocabulary; communication-this clip shows a game where two students with their eyes closed have to guess an object based on Spanish descriptions by students; enthusiasm- students getting excited about learning. Thank you for sharing, Mr. Ashby. Parents and students, here are two great resources for more information about our Spanish program:
