Senior Kyle Leeuw was surprised with the "Heart of the Dux" award, presented by Principal Colleen Johnson. Kyle, who uses a wheelchair because of complications from Spinal Bifida, learned last fall that he had a brain tumor. The growth was removed in December. Kyle worked hard, with support from family and friends, to return to classes in the second semester and successfully complete his senior year. Zeeland West High School created the "Heart of the Dux" award to recognize a senior each year who has faced adversity and succeeded.
