Nearly 100 educators, parents, students and community members gave a full day of their time September 19 to discuss the future of Zeeland Public Schools. The event was called Futures 2025 and took place at the Howard Miller Community Center in Zeeland. Guided by Bill DeJong, a West Michigan native and global consultant who has helped the district conduct two other future-vision sessions, the participants worked in clusters to discuss effects of the economy on education; the purpose of technology in the classroom; and the direction of future schools. Below, you’ll find links to videos of each meeting segment and the agenda for the day.
- “Our Changing Economy . . . What will be the jobs of the future?” presented by Bruce Los, senior Vice President of Gentex Corporation.
- “Technology . . . What’s next?“ presented by Sara Easter, President of Communications by Design.
- “Education . . . What will teaching and learning be like in 2025?“ presented by Bill DeJong, Senior Advisor of DeJong Inc, and Karen McPhee, Superintendent of the Ottawa Area Intermedia School District.
- “Where do we go from here?“ presented by ZPS Superintendent Cal De Kuiper.
