Zeeland counselor is one of 13 educators nationwide picked for summer Habitat program
Jill Caesar, a counselor at Cityside Middle School, has been picked to join 12 other educators from around the nation at the Habitat for
Humanities' first-ever Teacher Fellows program. Caesar will spend July 18 to the 24 at a Habitat affiliate in Tacoma, Washington. Participants will be trained to lead a new Habitat project with the students in their school district during the year following the trip.
"I'm excited to learn more and find ways to encourage our students to reach out to others," Caesar said. "Habitat for Humanity is a hand up, not a hand out." Although students working on a Habitat house build must be 16 or older, younger students can raise funds, advocate, reach out to involve the community, plan events, paint and landscape.
Caesar, an employee at Zeeland Public Schools for 14 years, has worked on Habitat builds in the Holland area. The summer program is sponsored by State Farm Insurance.
