Schools of Choice available at Zeeland Public Schools
If you live outside the Zeeland Public School district (see our map) you can make a "Schools of Choice" request to send your child here. Please keep in mind, however, that this option is not a guarantee of placement. There must be room in the classroom for your child and your child must be free of major discipline, failing grades, or truancy problems. We encourage you to read the question-and-answer section on this page to learn how our "Schools of Choice" program works.

Thank you for considering Zeeland Public Schools!
How does Schools of Choice work?
Zeeland and 10 other West Michigan School districts have agreed to accept and release students across district boundaries. No tuition cost is involved in such a transfer. However, two important requirements must be met before a student will be accepted in a participating district:
- There must be classroom space available in the grade requested.
- The student must be free of major discipline or truancy problems.
School districts joining Zeeland in offering the Schools of Choice option are: Allendale Public Schools, Coopersville Public Schools, Grand Haven Public Schools, Hamilton Community Schools, Holland Public Schools, Hudsonville Public Schools, Jenison Public Schools, Saugatuck Public Schools, Spring Lake Public Schools, and
West Ottawa Public Schools.
If one child is accepted, are my other children accepted, too?
Yes. Siblings are accepted in following years. Once your children are accepted here , they are considered Zeeland students until graduation, provided no major discipline or truancy problems arise. However, you must complete an application each year for each child.
When do I learn whether my child has been accepted?
We must wait until the third week in August to contact Schools of Choice applicants. We realize this creates a challenge for parents who naturally want to get their children settled into a school system as early as possible. However, we must get an accurate count of how many children have moved into the district over the summer and how much classroom space is available. We will call the third week in August to let you know whether your child has been accepted at Zeeland Public Schools.
If my child is accepted, can he or she catch a bus to school?
The decision is based on the amount of space available on the bus, and whether the child can be picked up at an existing bus stop. If the transportation department says there is room, the parent is responsible for transporting the child to the bus stop.
Can I ask for a particular school building for my child?
Yes. but if there is not room at that building, your student will be assigned to another building.
