Did you know?

Zeeland school administrators are on the road before dawn during bad weather to check roads in various parts of our 94-square-mile district.

By 5:30 a.m., they meet at the transportation office to decide whether to delay or cancel classes.

By 5:45 a.m., the administrators call the radio and television stations listed on this page, as well as the GRAIL network, a system established by the media to reach nearly all radio and TV stations in West Michigan.

By 6 a.m. they have updated the ALERT BOX on our web site and e-mailed the Zeeland Public Schools staff and the E-Team.

During bad weather, Zeeland usually will announce one of two messages:

  • Two hour delay of classes
  • School is cancelled

Cold weather policy for recess

Students will be kept inside during recess if:

  • the temperature is below 10 degrees;
  • the wind chill is below minus -10 degrees.

Be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. We do expect that children will go outside during recess periods. A warm jacket or coat, hat, snowpants, gloves or mittens, and boots are a must in cold weather.
