Nine Zeeland band students earn state honors

 
 
Congratulations are in order for nine Zeeland High School Band musicians nominated to the Michigan Youth Arts Festival Band and Outstanding Small Ensemble, based upon their performances at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) State Solo and Ensemble Festival March 24. 
 
Here are the pertinent details:
 
Francis LaPorte earned a spot on the Michigan Youth Arts Festival Honors Band for his performance on trumpet.
Jamie Baarman, Sam Boerckel, Tanner Bush, Brennon Cook, Kelly Daniel, Madison Garnsey, Jaemin Wilson, and Logan Wilson have been nominated to audition for the Michigan Youth Arts Festival happening  May 10, 11, and 12 on the campus of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. The percussion ensemble performed Metheny Dream.

Francis Laporte earned an Invitation to be a member of the MSBOA/MYAF Honors Band by earning a top score in the proficiency exam portion of the festival competition. Zeeland's eight small ensemble musicians won nominations from individual adjudicators and must now submit an audition recording by April 16 to be considered for the Michigan Youth Arts Festival.

A panel of adjudicators will select the top ensembles in specified categories to perform during the Michigan Youth Arts Festival. A collage concert featuring all of the selected ensembles will happen Saturday May 12.
